A Classic Encounter.

 On Friday 7th May 2010 a group of classic car enthusiasts from Kent journeyed 150 miles to Norfolk to link up with Fakenham Auto Club.

The Kent Classic Car Group lead by Julie and Peter Baldwin, were welcomed to Norfolk by F.A.C Chairman, Mike Tomlin at The Oak Inn,

Fakenham.

Pete and Denise Nesbitt provided an excellent meal as always, and plans were hatched for the weekend ahead.  

Saturday 8th May saw the group set off for a 75 mile drive around North Norfolk encompassing the slightly wet delights of Walsingham,

Wells-Next-The-Sea, The Burnhams, Hunstanton and Castles Rising and Acre.  That evening Bridget and Roger Savell cooked a splendid

dinner for the Kent Club and eight F.A.C members lead by Brian Monks, at The Crown at Colkirk. 

Everyone eventually dried off from the wet day and the Ladies were presented with perfume & roses, while the Gentlemen

discussed engines and crankshafts!  Such a good feeling of friendship and comradeship was forged over this weekend,

that Kent Classic Cars invited Fakenham Auto Club to be “twinned” together and share events in Kent and Norfolk in the future.

Mike Tomlin stated that Fakenham Auto Club is honoured to be invited into this partnership and F.A.C hopes to attend one of

Kent’s’ best car shows “The darling buds of May” Sunday 11th July at Bethersden.  Sunday 9th May, a much sunnier day saw

Kent and Fakenham clubs go separate ways, Kent to Sandringham House and Fakenham to Wroxham and the Norfolk Broads.

Alas, it was then time to wish Kent Classic Car Group a safe journey home.  Reminiscent of the famous “twinning” of Fakenham and

Olivet in 1982, both Car clubs hope this to be as successful and as long-lasting. It is certain that this friendship will grow and prosper

and F.A.C will welcome Kent back to Norfolk in June 2010.
